In November 2015, Leonard Cheshire Disability, the UK’s leading charity supporting disabled people, met with We Are Digital to discuss delivering training as part of their existing digital inclusion project, ‘Discover IT’. The training required was a combination of 1-1 and group delivery sessions at their Services and at Partner sites; providing additional IT training to enable staff to better support their learners. Due to the nature of the project and the range of disabilities; Leonard Cheshire requested a more bespoke workshop.

Working in partnership with specialist IT trainer, U Can Do IT, We Are Digital developed a bespoke short-day train-the-trainer workshop which combined basic IT topics, our existing digital champion support and specialist modules on awareness training and helping those with disabilities to get online. Both organisations added material into one package for our trainers and to ensure the course was even more successful, tutors from both organisations attended the day. We Are Digital’s trainer for the session, Paul Bryce, has sight loss himself, and is an experienced awareness trainer, so accompanying tutor materials were printed on braille for him.

A taster session was arranged for Leonard Cheshire’s London conference. The session was measured and deemed very successful and the charity has since ordered four more full workshops across three regions.
